Thintervention with Jackie Warner (or Girl, Please Cut Your Hair)
Jackie Warner's new haircut makes me uncomfortable. We'll just start with that. It vexes me. She's pretty butch and I can, as a woman who appreciates the uniqueness of every woman, see her appeal. I can see why she's carried on the shoulders of lesbians near and far. Her short 'do was pretty hot! But now... well, now it's like this thin Leif Garrett coif that just seems ill-proportioned with her long torso and very tiny, vajeen-daring hotpants.
It confuses me.... but we're here to talk about the show. Potential spoilers ahead, so do not read further if you've not caught up on your DVR.
When I first heard that Jackie Warner was doing a new show, Thintervention with Jackie Warner, it seemed like it was just a rip of Jillian Michaels' Losing It -- and it is, to an extent. The format of this show is actually a little more like The Biggest Loser, in that there are a series of varied personalities working out to lose weight at weekly weigh-ins.
It also differs in that their training styles are different. Jackie can be hard, but there's an unexpected softness and supportiveness about her that's less creepy than Jillian's close-talking and kindergarten voice. Don't get me wrong, I like Jililan Michaels -- I think she's a great trainer, she seems like a nice person -- those are just quirks that get under my skin.
And Jackie's not perfect -- hair aside, I think her sugar cutbacks were a little extreme. Granted, avoiding sugar is key -- it's the devil, but throwing out a big container of plain greek yogurt because it's got sugar seems imbalanced. We're only getting a sliver of the whole picture, I'm sure -- due to editing, but I think she actually said something like "Women think yogurt is a healthy choice, but they're wrong, it's loaded with sugar." Not all yogurt -- I realize I'm fat and she has like a 24-pack -- but I can still disagree.
On the flipside, I did like her inclusion of therapy -- other shows might want to take note of that. I've often wondered why the Biggest Loser contestants weren't doing daily or weekly therapy sessions. Losing that much weight that quickly changes parts of yourself and opens a floodgate of emotions, it's no wonder many contestants of TBL have gained weight back. So kudos to Jackie for the therapy.
The contestants are pretty tolerable. I kind of wanted to smack Nikki more than once, but I have to admit I saw a bit of me in her. I don't smoke, but I do love my cocktails. I appreciated that Jackie actually worked with her so that she could enjoy her lifestyle while still sticking to Jackie's plan. I don't know how well that will work, as once you have one martini, you tend to want three -- but I hope she can stick to it.
I was kind of surprised to see Jeana there (well, not really -- I'd seen the 3059403 commercials), but I'm interested to see if she changes. I always liked her on Real Housewives of OC, but did find her to be a bit... wimpy, I guess. She lets the men in her life walk all over her and treat her with such disrespect; it would be great to see her knock that shit off.
Everyone else on the show seems fine, except this guy. Joe is a fattist in denial and deluding himself beyond reason. Your gut is not why you can't close a deal with the ladies, Joe. It's your mouth. Seriously, shut up.
It's pretty nice to not have all the overt product placement and extended show times for advertisment accomodation that the Biggest Loser has. And it's less touchy-feely than Jillian's Losing It (at least so far).
I'm interested to see what happens next week. I guess as they say on Bravo... we'll watch what happens!
Did you watch? What did you think of it?

They Said Stuff!
I haven’t yet, but I have it on the DVR.
I’ve been wanting to check this show out because I liked Jackie on that other show she was on… Working Out? Anyway, I’m with you on the yogurt - yes, a lot of it is worse than a Coke in terms of sugar, but low-fat plain Greek yogurt is good for you! It has to have some sugar for the good bacteria to survive. Then again, I don’t have a 6-pack either. But let’s be honest - the tiny bit of sugar in plain yogurt is not what’s making America so obese. I think I’ll still try to catch the show, but probably won’t love it. I can’t love a show that doesn’t love Greek yogurt LOL
Also, does she actually work out in those shorts in the photo above? How is that not X-rated? I can almost see everything while she’s just standing there!
I made some kick-ass sauce for my fish tacos the other night with greek yogurt. I refuse to give it up!
I’ve never seen the show… but I can’t get past the whole, “yogurt isn’t healthy”. What the hell? =X That is not a diet I would go far on…
I love weight watchers. :) We can have yogurt! ;) Lol. Ooh and chocolate!
I really liked Jackie on Work Out until she got involved with Rebecca. She lost some credibilty there, especially when she followed Rebecca with a younger, dumber, less committed gal. I kinda feel about Jackie like I do about Hilary Clinton…until you can manage your own home, you can’t tell me what to do!
