I’ve struggled with my weight, body image and all those shenanigans my entire life and in January 2003, joined Weight Watchers Online. I subsequently lost 97 lbs. in just under a year, but over the next seven years, about half of it crept right back on due to life upheaval, a self-employed desk job, foods of convenience and plain, old fashioned lack of exercise. I’m back in the saddle again (and again!), but this time I’ve saddled up a life change, not another diet.
I’m a California girl, but live in Las Vegas, NV (for now). I’m one of The Moxie Girls of Moxie Design Studios (with Kathy), co-authored The IT Girl’s Guide to Blogging with Moxie (with Kathy!) and I’ve been offending everyone’s delicate sensibilities at Tenth Muse since 2003. I like cheese and vodka. And if I can have those two things together, I’m totally in.

I like Baked Cheetos and beer. There I said it. I lost 50 lbs on Weight Watchers many years ago. Since then, two kids and two c-sections later I have had to be on a modified version of Weight Watchers to keep my weight in check. I just got back into my pre-pregnancy jeans (woo!) and I did it all by eating right and exercising. Ok that’s a lie. I try to eat right and succeed in that as often as I can within reason. But like I said, I loved Baked Cheetos (which are complete trash and I know this) and I can’t give up my nightly beer and ice cream. I’m not perfect but I must live! I’m co-owner, with Joelle, of Moxie Design Studios, co-authored The IT Girl’s Guide to Blogging with Moxie and I run a blog called SafeMama.com which caters to busy parents wanting to keep up with safety and health issues for their kids. The rest of the time I’m mothering my silly boys and trying not to go insane.

If I had one wish, it would be for chocolate cake, bread and cheese to be zero points. And that’s how I got fat. Along with a huge lack of exercise (I hate sweating!) and overall indulgences in things that make you fat. It’s a pretty simple formula, eh?
When I’m not talking about why I’m fat and how I’m doing things to change “the fat”, I work with my husband at our web design and development studio Emtwo. The rest of the time you can find me blogging about life at with less fat, keeping pet parents informed about healthy pet products at Tree Hugging Pets and during the first week of October I’m kicking cancer’s ass at Boobie-Thon, a pledge drive that raises awareness for breast cancer. In the very rare instances that I find myself with some free time, I hang out with my husband, but only if he gives me control of the remote.
Who is this site for?
The Donut, as it's sometimes called, is for those who have a sense of humor, who are tired of listening to their own excuses, who are willing to forego the sugar-coating and be honest with themselves. Perfection is optional here. Sometimes we'll be fitness personified, sometimes we'll eat cake. Eating cake is part of living, but not being obsessed with what everyone thinks about you eating cake is part of getting healthy, both in weight loss and in self-perception.
Maybe you have 5 lbs to lose, maybe you have 150 lbs to lose. Maybe you just like the recipes. Whatever the case may be, we hope you'll feel welcome here.
Who is this site NOT for?
People who are uptight. We're not going to pussyfoot around things and we like to laugh, so chances are, there will be some of that and perhaps the occasional swear word. Please get over it.
Hatemongers and/or plus-size fetishists. This is not the place for you to jerk it... verbally or otherwise.
The DUH Disclaimer
If you're stopping by to comment about how we should just drink more water and just exercise more or that we just need to eat healthy foods, I offer you a very genuine and heartfelt, "No shit, Sherlock". In an ideal world, we would all eat whole foods and drink only water and ride unicorns and walk around naked, totally comfortable with ourselves in all our misshapen glory. But in this world, sometimes we drink beer or eat cake or work 16 hour days. This site is about helping us do that in a realistic way, while still maintaining a reasonably healthy lifestyle.
So, while some of you may be coming from a place of kindness and we appreciate that, most who share these obvious "tips" are simply exercising their perceived superiority. And to them, I say, sit on it, Potsie.
Who cares?
Well, we do! Also, in 2004 we were featured in the national publication, Lifestyle Magazine (from the Lifetime Television Network) and were nominated for a Bloggie Award for Best Group Weblog. The site has been in a holding pattern since 2005 when we had to go offline to focus on other things, but we're back... with bells on. Welcome!
